Chargers Head Developmental Coach Kate
Coach Kate Miller is in her fourth season as a Charger Coach. She has been a
part-time employee of the Chambersburg YMCA for eight years, where she spent
much of her time mentoring kids in the afterschool program, teaching swim
lessons in the aquatic department, and serving as aquatic manager during the
evenings.
Miller's knowledge of proper stroke technique and the natural ease in which she
relates with children make for a unique and irreplaceable combination as a coach.
In her third year as Lead Developmental Coach of the Chambersburg Chargers,
Miller's team improved leaps and bounds with tremendous time drops across the
board. Much of her success can be attributed to her focus on minor details, her
relentlessness in finding any way possible to relate to the kids to get them to
understand her message as a coach, and her willingness to take in and learn
everything possible about competetive swimming. Miller is also an excellent
planner who does much of the behind the scenes work of coordinating team
functions, parties, and banquets.
Three season's ago, Miller, along with Addlesberger, competed at YMCA Master's
Nationals, where she placed in the top 3 in her age group in the 50 freestyle.
In 2008, as the pool manager of the Moss Spring Swim club, Miler co-founded the
Moss Spring Sting Rays with Coach Addlesberger. She is now the Head Coach of
the Sting Rays, and has seen the team grow from 23 swimmers in 2008 to over 80
swimmers in 2011.
Coach Kate graduated from Shippensburg University in 2010 with a degree in
elementary education and a minor in Spanish. She is a third grade elementary
school teacher in the Greencaslte school district.
